Johanna Spyri: books in German

Johanna Spyri (1827–1901) was a Swiss writer born in Hirzel, a village in the hills near Zurich, the daughter of a doctor and a poet. Married to a lawyer, she lived in Zurich but missed the mountains of her childhood. She began writing as an adult, mostly for children. Her book Heidi, from 1880, became one of the most widely read children’s books in the world and was translated into dozens of languages.
