Ugo Foscolo: books in Italian

Ugo Foscolo (1778–1827) was born on the Greek island of Zakynthos to a Venetian father and a Greek mother, and grew up in Venice. A poet and a soldier, he believed in Napoleon and later felt betrayed by him. He wrote famous sonnets, the poem Of Tombs and the novel in letters The Last Letters of Jacopo Ortis. Rather than swear loyalty to Austria he went into exile, and he died poor in London.
