Manuel Antônio de Almeida: books in Portuguese

Manuel Antônio de Almeida (1831–1861) was a Brazilian doctor, journalist and writer from Rio de Janeiro. He wrote a single novel, Memoirs of a Militia Sergeant, first published in installments and signed only "A Brazilian". Full of humor, it portrays the ordinary people of Rio in the days of the king. He died at thirty in a shipwreck.
